New Zealand U-23s - Quali Whites
Hes been playing Waitak 1st team since what 09/10? I dont know his stats for the VPL but im pretty sure hes a regular starting player and goal scorer in oz too. He wasnt in U20s and hes not in the U23s. Neil emblem is coaching the side so he would of surely told Ryan to come and have a run around with the squad. You cant tell that Ethan Gabrelle or Sean Lovemore is a better striker than he is. Could be that he doesnt want to represent NZ because he wants to represent South Africa when hes older. (assuming that he goes pro)

I think our midfield could be a huge weakness here. What overseas players will be eligible if we qualify?

JV is right, Olympics wouldn't tie him to NZ, at this point only playing in an A international in official competition would do so.
We don't use out midfield though.
But in saying that, the addition of Vicelich, Mulligan, Clapham and Peverely immediately makes it look so much better. But there's no way those four will be at the Olympics, even though it is only three players we take. So who will our three overage players be?
Well I've heard Clapham has been doing well lately for a on form Canterbury side. Andy Bevin is a huge call. He is a class player. Luke Rowe's twitter update from last night makes a lot more sense after seeing the squad today. Have to remember Luke Rowe was named in a wider All Whites training squad not too long ago ..maybe that was before anyone had seen him play though.
on that note, if rowe is good enough for all whites stand by, then returns to play well in the nzfc, how can he be excluded from this squad?
it means that he's gone from backup to lochhead, to backup to lochhead, hogg and milne.
i could understand this demotion if he'd been awful, but he's clearly a standout.
little evidence of collaboration or co-ordination herereg222012-02-15 17:51:05
but how often does a junior NZ team get named and your like WTF?
With Galbraith playing it will turn into 9-0-1
Tony Smith - The Press
All White Aaron Clapham and midfielder Darren White turned on a sublime skills clinic and Russell Kamo was denied a dinkum hat-trick as Canterbury United ran riot with a record-equalling nine-goal haul.
The Canterbury Dragons demolished a demoralised Youngheart Manawatu 9-1 the same scoreline Canterbury were crushed by in the 2007-08 national football premiership season by Waitakere United...
...He was left flapping at thin air as comeback king Clapham bent two Brazilian-style freekicks beyond the defensive wall, White opened his Canterbury goals account with two sizzling strikes, Kamo and Tom Schwarz nodded in free headers and defender Julyan Collett stabbed home his first national league goal.
Canterbury coach Keith Braithwaite wasn't joking when he said the Dragons had scored "some quality goals but could have had a few more".
Manawatu who have now conceded 16 goals in two games were poor beyond belief. But there was much to admire in Canterbury's all-out attacking display as the Dragons almost doubled their goals account from 12 to 21 and moved into third place on goal difference.
Captain Clapham was rapt with the rout and his own successful return from five weeks on the sideline with a foot injury.

Braithwaite: Waikato win better than record
by Bruce Holloway at Porritt Stadium
Canterbury Uniteds 3-0 win over Waikato FC represented a better team performance than their ASB Premiership record-equalling 9-1 thumping of Manawatu a week earlier.
Thats the view of Dragons coach Keith Braithwaite after a convincing victory at Porritt Stadium, where his team was always in command following an early goal to Russell Kamo.
By contrast it was a lacklustre, disjointed showing by Waikato, in which they failed to reproduce the form of a week earlier.
Braithwaite was delighted.
"It was a performance we could be proud of, with three very, very good goals," he said. "I thought our lads were on their game today from start to finish.
"We pressured the Waikato boys and punished them when we got the chances."
Kamo potted two goal in the first 25 minutes, with a lively front-running performance.
Darren White supplied a pinpoint cross for the first from which he was able to steer the ball home from about six metres.
The second came from the other flank and was better. Kamo received a square ball outside the area, turned through 180 degrees and slid it into the far corner.
And the win was sealed in the 79th minute with a stunner from Canterbury skipper Aaron Clapham. The ball fell to him from a defensive clearance marginally to the left of goal and outside the area, and he executed a brutal volley which flew over Waikato keeper Mark Fulcher and into the net.
"You would go a long way to see a better goal," Braithwaite said.
Waikato coach Declan Edge gave an alternate perspective.
"I thought we were just starting to claw our way back into the game and some guy has popped up and hit something out of the sky."
But Edge has more fundamental worries than the odd thunderbolt goal.
Overall this was a poor Waikato showing which only served to underline that for all the feelgood factor of their previous 3-match unbeaten run, they have still only scored seven goals this season.
There was no flow to their play, and they were unable to impose themselves in the attacking third, where too often they were muscled off the ball or lost possession before mustering a shot.
While Canterbury carved a host of openings, a desperate first half diving header from Ryan Thomas was the closest thing to a genuine scoring opportunity for Waikato...
Tom Schwartz was strong at the back for Canterbury, while Braithwaite also rated highly the efforts of new English signing Daniel Glozier, who was on debut in taking time out from a world trip.
"He did exceptionally well, as did Russell Kamo and Aaron Clapham."

Canterbury dominating. Clapham , Slefendorfas prominent.

GOAL. Darren White crosses from right and Russell Kamo gets on the end of it to slide the ball home from about 6 metres.
79 min
GOAL. Out of nothing the ball falls to CLAPHAM and he spectacularly volleys with his right foot over Fulcher and into the net from outside the area.

always hear about people geting told their not good enough and then going on and making a name for them self hope im one of them #selfbelief
No game against Manawatu this season should be used as a measuring stick for any player.
Hard News would look like a potential All White if he played against them.
