In all honesty thats a piss poor team. Do you reckon any of these players will make it once you throw the overseas players into the mix with one or two Auckland City lads?? Just asking for opinions.
It is piss poor. There are so many players that would be picked but I understand wont being going to Fiji based on media reports (Rojas, Kosta, Woods etc) not to mention names like Keat, Boxall, Reid, Smith, McGlinchy, Gleeson..... We actually have a quality full strength Olympic side when you look at the amount of them that are All Whites so should go well.. and people say Ricki doesn't pick young talent.....
i think over-age players will be nelsen, brown and someone else..brown coz of ricki and we need experiance in the midfieldnelsen coz of his experiance
I would have McGlinchey in there and Winston Reid (maybe even Boxhall) and use this squad as a stepping stone to WC qualifiers

Agree, I'd take Reid and McGlinchey for sure, plus a forward - either Smeltz or Killen.
Think there's not much point in having Nelsen involved in something like this at his age and at this stage of his career. Reid is the future of NZ football, and this for me is a good opportunity to have him and Smith playing together in the centre of defence at a decent level but without too much pressure.
I can see your point, but I can see the advantage of having someone like that in a leadership role, and to help organise and calm things on the field.
Oh, I understand the impact that Nelsen's sheer presence has on the team (not just on the field but off it too), but at some near point in the future it won't be there anymore, so guess I see this as an opportunity to start preparing for life without Nelsen in the team.
Yep, I certainly see your point. I don't necessarily think there is a wrong answer here - we might just have to agree to disagree.
I think we take Nelsen. Yes he isn't going to be there forever, but that's exactly why we should make the most of him. Is Dan Keat under-23?
Nah he cant be, he was only a grade below me in junior footy and im 26
edit: wiki has him at 24

And what a primo coach he would be
I'd take Nelsen. As coach. Sack Ricki.
how anyone could suggest that we don't take nelsen is beyond me
Really? It makes that much sense to take a 35-year old who's on his last legs as a professional footballer and who may want to actually have a bit of a break over the European summer in the hope of maybe extending his professional career for another year or two? It's that much of a no-brainer that it's not even up for discussion?
Wow.
Wow.
hey dude. somebody disagreed with you
deal with it.
wow.
the olympic games isn't a development camp
What are they then? A premier international football competition?

If you want to make a statement about something, which you don't back up with any sort of rational argument, expect people to call you on it. It's called debate.

i think you need to chill out a bit fella
off the field he would be an invaluable asset and accelerate the learning curve of the younger lads.
i think nelsen would bring a lot to this team. his presence would raise the standard of the site and also extract a better performance from others.
Let's start with the concept of Peta being selected ahead of Keane or Basalaj who are in the current training squad, let alone Gleeson and Marinovic.

Keat, Boxall, Reid and McGlinchy to old
Personally Id like to see Smeltz as one of the open-age players in the squad.

Did anyone on here go to the U23 game in Palmerston North today?
If so, what was the final score? Can't find anything on the web.

w**ker - forum crashed and lost myy last post.
Keat to play - him and McGlinchey are our future CM's and it would be good to get them playing together and for Keat to work with Ricki.
Smeltz offers a known quantity up top and its a different players to the other NZ strikers (barbs to play out wide)
Brockie to play at RB - did well there for NZ and this is an area of weakness. (Although i do like hte look of Tuiloma from the u17's as a real prosepect and Fitzgerald has potential also.)
Brockie (to play RB), Reid and McGlinchey. We have too much talent in the strikers at U23 level. Plus Brockie can play up front as well.

if he doesn't want to go then fair enough
but to willingly leave out your best player would be pretty stupid
the olympic games isn't a development camp

His rationale was strong but in summary the guy is our best player and so if he wants to be there he will. End of story

Lindsay also has a shot at representing New Zealand at the Olympic Games in London later this year.
The Under-23 side will take part in the Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament in Fiji in March with the winner going on to London.
"I'm sure he'll be part of the Olympic campaign," said Herbert, who could be in charge of the U23 squad in London.
"We've given him time to be away with that group and train and play and the reports back have been very positive too."
It is certainly something Lindsay is keen to be involved in.
"That's definitely a goal of mine to get into that squad and make the qualifiers and then try and help the team qualify for the Olympics," he said.
"What an experience that would be to play at the Olympics.
"The football World Cup and the Olympic Games would be the two biggest sporting events in the world. To be involved in that squad and have the potential to go to something like that when you've grown up watching it on TV. To think you could be a part of that, that's huge."

That should make it a lot easier.
So a team perhaps like this 4-2-1-2-1 with Nelson, reid, smith (plus random other defender) then keat and Lindsey in a holding roll and lastly a diamond upfront with Mcglinchy behind Rojas and Barbarous (spelling??) and then wood upfront?
your list has 4 over age players, you'd have to chop that back to 3
