Actually on the Poddy we were saying nice things about him. Not sure I see him as a DM but in the Japan and Korea games he impressed me.
New Zealand U-23s - Quali Whites
How about James Musa as DM?
Got to be Joking
No Hate Lotsa Love, Just not at DM
He could be a destructive DM, but doesnt have the vision or ability to pass the ball out from what ive seen - however i wouldnt be against trying it

As I see it also
I do like how Emblen seems pretty realistic about performances and isn't afraid to say that we were crap, or that we needed to do things differently. The phrase he used was that we needed to be "braver" in possession - I like the sound of that a lot personally.
Trouble is Emblen seems to be out of his depth. He said we were crap and needed to control possession against Japan....and now after three games we still are crap and can't control possession. Why are we still hoofing long balls?
Traditionally NZ sides battle and hustle and make sides work hard to break us down. We have our two best defenders in Nelsen and Smith on the park and we conceed 4 goals. How about starting by sorting out the defense. We have in Nelsen, Smith, McGlinchey, Rojas, Smeltz, Wood and Barbarousses 7 of our starting senior AW's....something is seriously going wrong here.
In a couple of weeks time we will be facing Brazil with a front line of Neymar, Hulk and Pato with Ganso and Oscar creating play behind them.......be very afraid!!!!!!!
Get off emblem's case. He can't compensate for technical limitations. And as for today, it was 2 all until we subbed half our starting 11, so not a lot you can read into result.
Overall it was another fairly disappointing display of football by NZ with the team still struggling to keep the ball on the ground for large periods of time.
I thought i'd give a summary of how each player did.

Thanks TouchMe for the review. I was wondering who this MetalLegNZ fella was...lol.

TM - email [email protected] and outline what issues you are having. Should be able to get it fixed.

LOL technical limitations.
This is easily the most technically gifted side that we have ever sent to the Olympics. It also contains the most fulltime professional players we have ever had as well(10). They were terrible against Japan and don't appear to be making huge progress in subsequent matches. The buck has to stop somewhere. Emblen is the coach, he has to be accountable.
So when we do well, nelsen is coaching the team. When we don't,he isn't coaching the team.
It may well be the most technical, but it is still limited. Looking at the Brasil game today, we will be battling and I dont think there will be much chance to implement an attacking "game plan" out from the midfield
To repeat what a few others are saying in multiple threads, we desperately need a quality deep-lying midfielder. Was going to say 'defensive' midfielder but he needs more than just that. He needs to be positionally excellent, very good at tackling, quick and smart with his distribution and in possession of a wide passing range. i.e. a younger, fitter, faster elliott. It's a lot to ask...
We've tried killen and others out of position because we don't have this guy
Converting musa or smith or anyone else as mooted above is never going to cut it, it's a very specific skillset
Until this player comes along we will struggle with any attempts at possession football, despite apparently having decent players in most other positions. Our current crop of very good players has only amplified even further how important it is to have that midfielder
I don't have a solution, just faint hope that someone will miraculously appear...
yeah theyve been advertising GB vs Brazil on ESPN for the last week, delayed coverage from 9am Saturday morning.
Jeez, thanks for that - when I phoned Sky earlier in the week, they told me they weren't screening it - shows they have no idea what's on their channels! I'm not watching ESPN at all at the mo since they've not had any football for a while, so didn't see the ads.
Looking at the onscreen program guide, is to be replayed at 4pm today on ESPN- will watch it then. Since it's Team GB's first ever game together, can't see them having much of a chance against a well-prepared Brazil who've been together since May.

Belarus v Japan (pre-Olympics friendly)
« Thread Started on Jul 18, 2012, 4:49pm »
<!-- google_ad_section_start -->I went to see Belarus v Japan today in an Olympic warm-up match at Nottingham Forest's City Ground.
Japan finished 1-0 up, and they deserved to win. At times their midfield was running rings round the Belarus midfield. Both teams created chances though, but the finishing all round was poor.
Japan's winner was late in the second half, and a good goal. This briefly spurred Belarus into their best spell.
Not a great match, but good value for a fiver. The crowd was just short of 800, mostly Japanese.

Have a feeling Belarus will present our best chance of a result if we can get our act together...

There is a shitload of football on Sky Sport on Thursday and Friday early morning. Nothing else has started, so Sky are showing all the games live by the looks of it. Going to be awesome.

I'm not sure how much of the football they will show when the rest of the events kick off, Sky may be true to form and show as little as they can get away with.
probably just be rowing on all 5 channels when the rowing's on, and replays of rowing on all 5 channels when its not

Don`t forget the dressage and show jumping as well

I too was initially fooled into thinking Sky were going to turn a new leaf and give exemplary coverage - until I read that only five of the eight Olympic channels are available to standard domestic subscribers like myself (you have to have My Sky with an HD access ticket and Sky Sport subscription to access channels 9-11) and looked at the schedule after the first couple of days.
Some major gripes:
1. NZ Men v Egypt at 11pm on Sunday 29 is live only on Sky Sport 9 (available only as above) when this is at a good time for people wanting to stay up and watch it live, otherwise most of us will have to make do with a replay on Sky Sport 8 at 6am on Monday morning...Volleyball, waterpolo and canoe slalom (mostly not even featuring Kiwis probably) take precedence over the NZ men's football team on the standard Olympic channels.
2. On the weekends when most people will be watching more Olympics, there's hardly any football e.g. on the first weekend 28th and 29th there's only replays of NZ V Belarus and that's about it...(unless you have My Sky HD but even then, only one men's and one women's match).
3. The football drought continues Monday and Tuesday (including the weekend, that's four days during the busy group stages with virtually nothing) except NZ v Egypt (delayed Monday am for most of us) - so don't expect to see much of our group opponents Brazil, Egypt and Belarus' games or games from other groups - they're mostly not bothering to broadcast them at all, even delayed !!! In fact, the only exception to this is the first couple of days of the football tournament before the Olympics proper start when they have nothing else to broadcast...
4. QUARTER-FINALS: Only two of the women's quarterfinals are on the standard Olympic channels 4-8 one live, one delayed - the other two not at all !!! That's absolutely shocking !!!
But the seperate Olympic TV schedule in the Skywatch mag is all up the shoots anyway, listing the "third quarterfinal" as being broadcast before the "first quarterfinal" etc.
Men's quarterfinals: only TWO incredibly are live on the standard Olympic channels according to the schedule (the first quarter at 10.35 pm Sun. 4 and the third quarter at 3.50 am Mon. 5); the other two are NOT SCHEDULED TO BE SHOWN AT ALL ON THE STANDARD OLYMPIC CHANNELS 4-8 !!! Not even delayed !!!
Hope that's an error in their listings or I read it wrong - but that's what I'm seeing...
5. SEMIS: The women's semis are LIVE ONLY FOR MY SKY SUBSCRIBERS on channels 9-11 on the morning of Tues. 7 August, otherwise for most of us replays several hours later at 2pm and 4.10 pm.
Men's semis: ONLY ONE LIVE on the standard channels (6.35am Wednes. 8), other delayed (8.50am) but live only to My Sky folk (3.50am Sky Sport 11).
6. FOOTBALL FINALS: Predictably LIVE ONLY TO MY SKY HD SUBSCRIBERS !!!
Women's 6.35am Fri. Aug. 10: Sky Sport 9
and for most of us the replay really sucks - 14 hours delayed at 8pm that night on Sky Sport 5 !!!
Men's Final: If you have MY Sky HD live on Sky Sport 10 at 1.50am on Sun. 12 Aug.
For the rest of us: TEN HOURS DELAYED at 11.35am on Sky Sport 5.

CONCLUSION: Most of us will be living on scraps and the coverage is not at all satisfactory (although arguably better than TVNZ's crappy Beijing football coverage when they actually dared to cut away from live NZ men's and women's team games to show other sports - and often never returned to the football broadcast, whilst most football was shoved onto TVNZ's Freeview channels).
The coverage of the quarter-finals , semis and finals is particularly shoddy with few games live on the standard Olympic channels.
IT'S A MARKETING PLOY TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO SUBSCRIBE TO "MY SKY HD" AND I'M AS LIKELY TO FALL FOR THIS AND TAKE OUT A SUBSCRIPTION AS I AM TO BUY AN ALL BLACKS SEASON TICKET-

Enjoyed the ferns performance. They will have a shot v Cameroon. On to Coventry soon - will be a lot more nz supporters there - disappointing numbers for the ferns game. Hopwfully we are in friggin white this time so my white suit doesn't look mental

i really hope we don't see the following players tomorrow morning - adam thomas and alex feneridis
In-country game day! Fire up!
Off to Coventry this afternoon, another stunning day!
Anyone know if we are in white or black? Atm I plan on wearing the white World Cup shirt.

How do you live without MySky and HD coverage?
Also, how do you think Sky are able to pay to broadcast so many channels? Quit moaning and stump up.
(yes I'm a Sky shareholder).
Really excited about heading to Coventry today. As one forumite who spent last night there has suggested to me 'it is a fucking shithole' which only partially made up by the fact that 'there is a pub that serves 3 for 1 drinks'.
#WhiteNoiseOnThePiss.

Only brought my black away strip, so fortunately this will help make you look like a tosser in a mental white suit.
Who cares - 3 for 1 drinks!!
Good morning guys, Nz looking good in the early spell.. Def the first team to settle and playing some decent football
Tommy smith got a joke of a yellow card after 23 seconds, and Hogg looks to have a dirty haircut from what i can tell
chris wood free header on goal- shouldve been a goal really
chris wood has his second shot on goal after good build up from we mac and smeltz
traditional last minute nz defender, we mac does well to prevent a goal scoring opportunity
