I agree, Australia will be big favourites. Their home record against us is pretty immaculate, out of both friendlies this is the one we're most likely to lose. It would be pretty awesome to spoil the party at Australia's last home game before they head off to a World Cup though.

How can you say that. None of Garbett, Cacace, Wood or Greive are currently starting for their clubs. Bell not much either. Reid is clubless. But all in a first choice AWs team. Sail didn't get his touted overseas move. Matt Ryan is in a different class.
Aussie are favourites, and they also have far deeper depth in their squad. There is no Cam Howieson in their 31.
But AWs are a chance esp at Eden Park. Also pissing down with rain currently in SE QLD. Will be a wet pitch.

Yes I know I've made a very risky/controversial statement. Australia definitely have more depth and players getting regular starts for big clubs, but watching their last few games, I just don't think they have been very impressive, despite the fact they are heading off to a World Cup and are playing much tougher opposition. I'm sorry but that's just how I feel about it at the moment, doesn't change the fact they are still heavy favourites tonight.

For the first time in over 10 YEARS @NZ_Football take on the @Socceroos 🇳🇿 v 🇦🇺
Across two games these rivals do battle for trans-tasman bragging rights! 🤜🤛
Game 1: Thursday 9.30pm
Game 2: Sunday 3pm
Both games LIVE on Sky Sport ⚽#SkySportNZ pic.twitter.com/WhTho6ULQi
Imagine: Bell, Stamenic, Sarpreet, Thomas, Lewis, Rufer. Add Just to that too.
Compare that to Elliot, out of retirement Vicelich, Andy Barron and Jeremy Christie.
All the current guys were starting in midfield for professional clubs.
More games might mean a chance to see some of that talent play together.
Edit:Geez even managed to leave out the guy who almost got us to the WC: Garbett.

I hope NZF is listening to Woodsy and Hay. We have to keep momentum going and make the most of the generation we have coming through.
Sounds like they are a bit pissed there are no friendlies organised for Nov, pre the WC.
I remember Hudson making similar complaints early in his reign.
But doesn’t it cost like $200k or something to assemble the AWs per window?? Similar with the Ferns?? NZF will have to watch their pennies a bit until hopefully grabbing $15-20M FIFA WC qualification cash in 2026. Acting like a MASH triage
Yes it's harder because teams want to play against the Ferns and hardly anyone wants to play the All Whites. But it's gotten ridiculous. Even since the Olympics, when the All Whites have been more active, we've gotten 7 friendly matches. The Football Ferns in that time have gotten 13 friendly matches in that time, and have hardly improved at all.
Way I see it - NZF is skimping on AWs games but happy to fund heaps of Ferns games because they are a host team at the 2023 WWC and will be at the 2024 Olympics. But it's extremely frustrating when this has long been an issue and the All Whites now have a potential golden generation that's going to get pissed into the wind on a national team level because we're stuck in OFC and play hardly any games.
I can't speak for 3 News (if someone can enlighten that would be great!) but there wasn't even a mention of it over on One. Zip, Zilch, Nada.
Pathetic. Bordering on disgusting.
Lots on the rugby though. This stupid bloody country. 🤬

I have emailed Three News berating them for not covering it and reminding them that Football is now much bigger than Rugby in terms of participation.
Also why would they report on a Netball game that was a farce as some great win.
NZ Football has a role to play ensuring that Three News is supplied with stories. But then again this may be asking too much as it is NZ Football.

I'm giving up on One after this evening. Fatman Saville can piss right off with his love of egg ball.
To be fair, if I want to really know what's going on with football I'm straight on here, or keeping an eye on Rollo or Voerman over on twitter.
How hard is it in a country like ours to cover a matchup of New Zealand v Australia?
It could be an egg and farken spoon race and it should arouse that competitive trait and coverage that makes this rivalry so great.
Piss poor all round, and a definite missed opportunity to at least get some attention on the All Whites before returning to Auckland over the coming days.

Yet here we are, I'm really looking forward to this game.
Fascinating team sheet for All Whites.

Winston Reid not starting.
Chris Wood captain.
Nice mix of youth & experience & plenty of cavalry on the bench.

5-3-2, turning to a 3-5-2 in transition/on attack.
It's getting close now.
Come on you All Whites! ⚪⚫
Reid on the bench, maybe saving him for Aucks...

We have 3 domestic players in our starting XI though. (A league)
Compared to there zero.
If that means anything.
Waine still pre-season.

Thanks so much for that Big Pete. Can't this/thank you enough!
De Jong is he really to this level?
