MIRON Bleiberg has landed one of his long-time transfer targets with the announcement today that Ivorian midfield enforcer Jonas Salley will sign a short-term deal with Gold Coast United.

Renowned for his steely performances, 29-year-old Salley has completed his contract with Chinese outfit Chengdu Blades and will join United as an injury replacement player with a view to making the move permanent next season

That's a bit harsh.  Who could forget that amazing goalkeeping demonstration against us a couple of seasons ago?

Perfect positioning, eyes firmly on the ball and wasn't distracted by Dadi's antics, got both hands to the ball and held it.

One of the best textbook saves I've seen.  Even he was pleased with himself - had a little smile afterwards.

What sort of get-out clause? My guess would be some max transfer for a european comp which isn't really relevent at the moment.

I wonder if any of the clubs will have a look at Vince Grella. He is off contract at the end of the season, and his recent injury history will scare off most foreign clubs.

Julius Davis, an african/australian teenager formerly signed as a youth player for bayern munich has started training with victory. Apparently an attacking midfielder. I believe he previously lived in Australia long enough not to count as an import. Wonder what that means, if anything, about Rojas' spot?

He needs to be in Aussie 6 more months to qualify for them, so I would say he is back from Germany to meet that requirement.

Rodi may have put his two cents on the table but it was ultimately Marco's choice to move.

I think the new manager is probably better for him. Word is that Melbourne will be changing to a 4-2-3-1, which at least means his best position actually exists in their formation. I think tonights game could be very important for him. Magilton has said he will give their non-starting players a chance but he has a few players he knows that might move their. Since these are all foreigners the import status could really bite Marco. Just got a feeling we might get Marco back assuming Ricki wants him.

The A-League is set to be flooded with five-star imports aiming to earn contracts during Australia's FIFA transfer window, which opens for trade on January 17.

The global financial crisis has forced some high-quality players to revalue their next contract, and the A-League - one of the Asian Football Confederation's better-paid competitions - is becoming a frontier worth investigating.

A European agent is offering playmaker Bryan Bergougnoux, 29, currently on loan from Italy's Lecce to France's Chateauroux; Nice right-back Francois Clerc, 28; and Honduran playmaker Julio Cesar Dailey Leon, 31, from China's Shandong Luneng, to A-League clubs.

Only 4 clubs have import slots available, Adelaide, CCM, Victory and us. I don't think we will see any of these guys playing here.

I had a guy offer me a Porsche and a Ferrari one day. I just couldn't afford them.

Perhaps that's a similar scenario to these agents offering A-League clubs these 5-star players.

This is funny

Brazilian striker Ricardinho, whose salary is in excess of $300,000, has been back on the A-League club's books since December when his loan spell at Brazilian second division side Parana ended.

He remains contracted with Victory until April 30.

Dumped by Victory after a miserly return of two goals in 19 games, he consumes a sizeable chunk of the salary cap.

Only Harry Kewell and Archie Thompson pocket more, with Kosta Rican star Carlos Hernandez believed to be in that ball park.

Coach Jim Magilton last week told the Herald Sun he was targeting at least one international, but with Ricardinho taking up the fifth and final visa spot after Hernandez, Jean Carlos Solorzano, Fabio and Marco Rojas, his hands are tied.

<!-- story-related story-sidebar -->
Victory wants to do business this month but is limited with little more than $100,000 left in the cap.

In a deal that would have freed up a visa spot, Solorzano was offered to Newcastle Jets in exchange for defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley in December, but it collapsed when coach Mehmet Durakovic was sacked.

Victory is prepared to release Ricardinho on a free transfer and managing director Richard Wilson is confident a deal can be struck before the A-League transfer window closes in a month.

"We're not bringing him back. We're working on his situation at the moment because his loan with the Brazilian club has finished," Wilson said.

"If we finalise a financial arrangement that's agreeable then we free up the visa spot. Otherwise he's still on our books.

"We're in the market but we haven't done any deals.

"Are we likely to? It's a possibility. We've still got a bit of money in the cap and room on the roster. It's difficult to do anything in the January window, but we're in the market and we've had players offered to us both locally and overseas."

Wilson said while the club was juggling short and long-term targets, Victory was after players who could make an immediate impact.

"This window is primarily about shoring up our list to get the best result we can this season," he said.

Meanwhile Finnish striker Juho Makela's unhappy time at Sydney is coming to a close after the player was told he will not be offered a new contract for next season, and can leave immediately if he can find a new club.

CCM could use another striker, and have the import spots. Wonder if he would suit their style?
