Interesting to hear different opinions.
I want to be that optimistic too! :-)
But if we sell Paulsen, Old and Surman I can't imagine us doing as well next year. Those three all had a reasonable amount of first team time before this season and apart from Kelly-Heald and Hughes no other academy players seem ready to replace them.
(yes Conchie could but he plays in a different position).

Paulsen is unique in temperament and in ability with his feet. And he’s been a ball at feet keeper his whole development I believe.

I think Hughes is ready to play more minutes this season, as is Kelly-Heald.

I wonder about Sutton. He certainly hits power shots, but hasn’t scored much. We need to ask Nick Montgomery what he said to McGarry to get his goal radar on or Popovic to Geria and Traore!

While Old is good, if we don’t attack through him we can attack in another way through different players.

But without Paulsen we’ll be a fundamentally different team. We’ll have to build our attacks differently. It’ll affect our defense as we might start to concede shots from different areas, such as more from high turnovers, than we did before.

I’d also love to see Rufer playing a European Conference league or even Europa Cup semi-final or final. He doesn’t have to for the fans, but for the country and his place in the pantheon I’d love to see him get a chance like that.

We might have to bring in a couple of Australian players or imports if we want to keep our standards up and replace the names you’ve mentioned.

On the other hand maybe there are players such as Sheridan, Supyk and GSR will develop over the preseason.

We’re guna be different and I’m going to be interested with what Chief will do.

Really interesting listen. First time I've heard Shaun Gill speak

Gill said he's receiving phone calls from European & US (presumably MLS) about players. He was talking about the mens team, but maybe that was a little mistake and the US interest is about the ALW squad.

Sounds like all the ALM clubs share intel with APL, to make sure they ain't underselling their players to Europe. APL feedback, Nix are getting is that they are doing okay.

For those who thought the Nix sold Paulsen too cheaply, this week's pod with Gill is definitely worth the listen. As he said it ain't an exact science.

Yeah I read that as meaning US interest for women’s players. He’d just finished talking about Macey and then spoke about the new USL women’s league in relation to Hope Breslin.

I love Dale's commitment. He even does Saturday mornings on local radio previewing Central League games - Yes, Dale, some people DO listen. Very informative. Respect for your inputs.

Zawada was plan b talk is utter nonsense. He started when he was fit, he played even when he was carrying injuries. He scored a goal every 85 minutes.

Yeah and then we developed a different play style that suited Kosta since OZ was barely available. Plan A will always be “how can I best use the players available to me?”

Even when he was available he was rarely used as a starter so think its more than fair to say he was a plan B option. Yep he scored at a good clip when played but sadly that was way down on what was expected so rightly Chief used other options.

That's not accurate, not a single game did he sit on the bench unused.

He was our 2nd top goal scorer for the season, scoring at a rate more than twice as quick as Kosta (a goal every 189 minutes). Scoring at better than a goal every 90min is amazing, in no one's world is that down on expectations (he was 2nd for goals per minute for any player that scored 2 or more goals in the league). He was rushed back at the end of the season.

If Zawada was fit to start, he'd have been starting. Insanity to suggest otherwise.

Yep, plan b is probably the wrong term, but the point i think they were making is we were forced to change plans a for most of the season and we were successful with it.

That didnt happen though when he did get fit maybe Chief chose to go with what was working.

He never got fit to start at the end of the season, that's why he was only playing short minutes off the bench

Be interesting to see how he goes in Poland. Whether he can find his Nix goal scoring form.  Anyway, we have moved on and it will be interesting to see what schemes come into play it things are working out or not.
