BREAKING: @FOXSPORTS_NEWS can confirm former England striker Emile Heskey has signed a one-year deal with@NewcastleJetsFC #HAL #foxfootball
Heskey & Zadkovich together? They better hang up some netting behind the goals for the sake of the crowd.
Still gotta pass a medical...
With the Sky Blues basking in the glory of landing Italian star Alessandro Del Piero on a two-year deal, it has emerged Wanderers has launched an audacious bid of its own for one of Germany's greatest ever players, who's contract at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen is up.
It is believed representatives of Wanderers have been talking to Ballack's representatives over the past week, with a view to sealing a $1.6 million one-season deal.
In a mouth-watering sub-plot to the A-League's first Sydney derby, Ballack and Del Piero would face off when the two clubs meet for the first time on Saturday 20 October at Parramatta Stadium, should the deal happen.
Ballack is a veteran of 98 appearances for Germany, which he also captained. The 35-year-old midfielder was one of Roman Abramovich's first high profile recruitment coups joining Chelsea from Bayern Munich in 2006, before returning to Bayer Leverkusen in 2010.
The news comes in a ground-breaking week of high profile signings for the A-League, with reports on Wednesday linking Newcastle Jets with the $1 million signing of English striker Emile Heskey on a one-year deal.
Wanderers in running for Ballack.
So Del Peirro, Ballack, Heskey, Flores.... Wow so much for Kewell
Would be mint to see Ballack in the A-league...If only this was done before the Christchurch game.

Apparently the #aleague have changed the rules. Foreign MQ is outside Visa spots (via @lesmurraySBS) #GoWanderers #aleague
The changing of the foreign rule for ballack is rediculous. Apparently he is eligble for Ausy residency.
If they did change the rule - that is completely f*king up everything for all the clubs who have 23 players already. Brisbane could potentially sign another foreigner if this rule does change
Who cares - seriously do what you need to get these players down here
Who cares? May as well let teams breach the salary cap then.
If they want Ballack, they shouldn't have signed 5 foreigners already. It's as simple as that.

They fixed the rule that allowed injury replacements to be more than who they replace.
I would be shocked if the FFA has changed the visa rules for the international marquee. That would need the PFA to agree with it, and I haven't seen them moan about anything like that.
In the Daily Telegraph article they are claiming that the rest of the A-League clubs gave dispensation to Wanderers to allow them to sign more than the 5 visa players in June. So it's not an actual rule change.
The biggest issue I can see is the FFA using A-League cash to fund their own team. That sounds like a proper rort that the owners would get pretty pissed off about, I assume they'd have to find a way to pay for it from sponsorship or something else.
Are you guys not excited about this? I'm in bloody England and have the premier league down the road and I'm excited!
I wouldn't mind Marquees being outside the foreign limit if it means we get more quality players into the league
Although that is one less spot for a local

But this just seems a bit fishy. If the rule existed since June, why did the Wanderers make a lot of noise about not needing a marquee player? They pushed the idea that it was a local club, for local players and didn't need a big name. It is only since Sydney signed ADP that talk of marquees has started. So this feels like they are trying to get publicity to say to the fans that "Hey we still exist, don't run off to join Sydney. We can be linked to big names too! Look see we talking with Ballack. Please stay, pretty please".
RR - I think that's exactly what's happened. Maybe they've realised what is possible in terms of quality - I mean Ballack and ADP are significantly above what else has been floated around marquee names
I would love to see Ballack - but it seems rediculous that the rules can be broken by an FFA owned team. But not unexpected.
There was also a big deal made that Bling could only sign ADP because they manage to release Moriasu
Maybe there should be a dispensation for a superstar marquee where if he truly is a huge name with huge pedigree then thats okay. But there defintiely shouldnt be rules that only apply for certain teams.
If I was the nix, Id be pretty pissed if they can do this deal but our league game cant be shifted
One rule for some, another for others.
There is also talk that Hyundai and Fox have biffed money in to pay some of these salaries. Way to keep a level playing field FFA.
It has been a long saga, they have been trying to get a big transfer fee for him all off season. Adelaide would have had plenty of time to line up targets to replace him and will have a decent chunk to spend on one. I must say it is a shame, he is a quality A-League player and really is too good to be playing in Indonesia.
An interesting comment in there from a Sydney supporter (typically cant spell either name, too hard for him)
"As a SFC fan there have always two strikers we love to hate, Van Dijik and Ifil. No matter how well your team may be playing these guys can create something from nothing. Best of luck, would like to see you in the Indonesian national team."
I love how the main newspaper in Adelaide is called the advertiser!
Rules havent changed
The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich midfielder would not have been eligible for a marquee contract with the Wanderers as all five foreign player spots were already filled, but Football Federation Australia confirmed yesterday he would have been able to join as a guest player for up to 10 games.
Heskey deal pretty much all sewn up now.

Good morning... we have good news for your Friday! It's official, Emile Heskey has signed with the Jets: http://bit.ly/UlCfNi #heskeyajet
major announcement coming soon with Wanderers, Ballack on the way for sure
They announced Beauchamp as captain at the press conference they had @ 2pm Sydney time. Or have they called another for today?
OK Beauchamp captain, that's it ??
That's it....
Shinji Ono - the latest to be linked with West Sydney marquee role. Interesting, the World Game are going hard with their story of Ballack deal being done. Sydney Morning Herald sticking with the line that they are not interested.
Would suggest that Ono is more likely at this point - and, to me, would be the better signing anyway.
