Fuck me you south islanders have a chip on your shoulder.
Maybe your players just actually aren't that good?

That's a bit ruff. I never agree with Prickly Thistle but I get the point that it would have been nice to have some contact with the echelons of selectors asking and viewing players that they wouldn't normally get to see at this tournament or Napier or whatever. Makes sense doesn't it?

We pay the same fees it would be nice to get a fair portion of the service we pay for.
It would be nice to see a couple of our players get a chance to make the national teams.
Auckland trounced at the U15 National Tournament but guarantee they will have plenty in when national camps and squads are picked.
One of those rare moments i agree with you 10,000% Smithy.
Their attempts to denigrate the Napier u19s tournament because of the lack of South Island teams is tragic.

Just seems to me that if you're from the South Island you reckon the whole world is geared against you. Nobody watches your games, everyone is out to get you, but secretly your teams are amazing and if there wasn't the epic conspiracy New Zealand teams would be chocker full of good Canty and Otago lads.
I call bullshit.
Check the records. There have been a smattering of good players from the South over the years.
Even have had one or two get into the All Whites.
Recently though not a sniff of making youth squads. We just keep paying our fees so your Auckland lads can see the world.

Nowhere near as good though. And not the national tournament either.
Some of the outfits in Napier would seriously struggle at the Lotto tournament. Most of the second tier section in Napier was very disappointing to watch.
We've only got your word for the fact that nobody watched your games. Maybe they were there and you missed them...?

This is WRONG ....ane fule kno AUCKLAND IS the WORLD !
.
Personally I think we are due for another Southlander in a NZ team!
AJ13
I saw the incident and used the words "made contact".
I was on the sideline where the team benches were and had a similar view to the assistant referee who was the closest to the incident.
To be clear, the contact was made after the red card was given.
Not passing judgement on what happens from here.

The next Kenny Cresswell or Aaron Burgess, why not.
Is Mosgiel close enough? James Mcgarry looked very impressive, good pedigree his uncles and aunts could play a bit and his old man turned out for Southland & NZ
Speaking of Southern players for further honours, the keeper for Dun Tech girls should be getting a crack.

Sorry foal30 I can't understand what you just said.
PT's beef with National selections is valid.
Yes the simple answer is "players are not good enough". However Sth Island based players get next to no chance to be selected. I'm guessing he thought U-17 ACFC was a chance for some of his players to be viewed.
By whom? The NZ U17 coach hasn't been announced yet.
Fred's outlined what he thought was possible for the weekends games/tournament.
In my limited experience I am inclined to agree with his analysis.
The carry over from the U-15 comp he identified could be interesting!
I think all players outside of Auckland get an equally less-good chance to be seen by NZF.
I think the perception of Cantabs in particular is that this is some kind of orchestrated conspiracy. I think it's just standard NZF laziness and ineptitude.
I also think that genuine stars seldom miss out wherever they are from.
I think that anyone who thinks that there is a whole bunch of undiscovered gems in Chch that NZF is wilfully ignoring is bonkers.
And this is my picture.
Smithy got to disagree with u there, Siggy is the prime example of having to move to Auckland to get a chance . A few top girls have done the same. The landscape possibly changed with Wellington being the place to be.
There is plenty of kids in ChCh that are as good. The thing is they have to be exceptionally better than the kids the selectors see up north on a weekly basis
Siggy is almost 35!! A lot has changed in 20 years!

That's not what's being presented at all foal.
The same process faults affect kids in Wellington, Hamilton, Napier and New Plymouth...
What this tells me is that NZF are as piss poor now as they were 30 years ago.
Does it? I don't live there so I wouldn't comment. It would seem to me that it is the most likely scenario given the experience of Christchurch and the presumed (on my part) logistical issues affecting the centers you named. But that's still a guess on my behalf.
Many reasons have been bandied about for the ongoing dearth of representation from Sth Island boys in National squads on these boards. Some have been fairly hard-hitting and localized.
Smithy, as long as there is perceptible flaws in any selection process then other factors aside from the obvious one (Not good enough) will be raised as reasons for why things are the way they are.

Nice one. Was that when they picked you Leggy ?
Seriously though it has never been perfect but the Truman's, Jones and Fallon's were a lot more visible in the South even Invercargill. Even up to and including Ken Dugdale.
We had legitimate opportunities to put players on the park against the Northern Hordes in Inter region youth tournaments and even the earlier interfeds in Napier. We also had a voice or two putting the case for our players. Conley, Marshall, Mackenzie, Moore etc. would be invited to put their views.
The NTC's were really NTC's camps for the best from across the country. Not a camp in Oamaru for Southern only.
National Youth League final, must be 4 or 5 years ago. In Christchurch, Canterbury v's an Auckland side. The U20 coach was there and was seeing the Canty team for the first time. Canty team won comfortably. How many made the squad?
Chris, as honest as ever admitted he new none of them so could not pick any.
Not his fault but certainly he organisations fault.
That is as good as it gets since then no one even gets seriously considered. Since Barty, I can only think of Ken Yamamoto.

I agree Smithy. Proof is the last youth team which Andy Hedge helped select, a few bonus Wellingtonians in that squad. The answer is a balanced group of selectors North Central and Southern based.
We do get some girls in the squads Gareth has a voice. Not one for the boys.
Who paid for the Auckland Under 20's in the National League was that paid for by NZF ? I honestly do not know.
We read all the time about our young Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Cricket National reps. Just none for Football.

so about that tournament then....
so about that tournament then....
Ellerslie won their tightest game v's Coastal Spirit (from Ch,ch.) won 5 - 4 on penalties in Quarter Final
Siggy is almost 35!! A lot has changed in 20 years!
But an honest question , why aren't our young ChCh lads making national age group teams. Basing it on a population basis we should have 10 % of each squad of 20 ,selected .2 in each age group. Why is it not happening ?
Not coached well?
No talent there ?
Nobody pushing there boat?
I'd like to think the talent is there coming through, how as a province can we all help these young lads get there name in front of selectors . Certainly doing this with girls, probably more than 10%
.
It's all to do with where the coaches live. Once upon a time the coaches actually got around the countryside and had a look at the different regional camps, usually during the school holidays, and picked the side from those. Now they are all based in Auckland and want to work with the players on a daily basis forever before they go away to tournament, so players have to live there to make the side. Mainland have no coaches on the boys national radar, simple as that, nothing to do with the quality of players, all to do with the place you live and the cost of relocating.
