Vader please tell me you are being sarcastic about the stein heading comment. I have never seen a worse pro striker who heads a ball and I suspect neither have you

Have to agree with you AP, Sunday was the best header I've seen him make and it hit the crossbar!

Well sign him up to a multi-year deal then if thats all it is.....

You can hardly say he is a crap header of the ball when it's widely acknowledged that our crossing has been shit all year... Come on.

making runs and making space - yeh I think if the game is goals and we lead the balls into the box stat getting a player who is good at popping up and getting on the end of crosses could be handy, seeing as Brockie is ok at it...but short and we don't have anyone who is acknowledged as a strong scorer in the air.

Vader, he is horrible and couldn't offer his head in a brothel. As punishment watch a replay of every minute of every game that stein has played in this season.

But then that would just exacerbate the point that we are shit at crossing. We've been saying that all year man. Don't make out like all crosses have been perfect and it's Steins fault. The reality is, our crossing has been shit all year. Go argue against that in the main forum and see how you go

right so... In adequate service equals poor at heading. Got ya.

Oddly enough, judging by forum posters, I could recommend the same medication for you.

It's widely recognised that Stein has a first touch of quality. No one as said, 'oh but if he could head'

I seem to remember rory only has a 2 year contract at Aberdeen....any word on where he might go, don't get the particular feeling he will be begged to stay at Abers.

A rare red card for God's-own Rory - a previous red at the end of 2011 for Aberdeen was rescinded on appeal, though in the worst incident of his career he received one at the end of the 2004-5 season on loan to Yeovil from Swindon "for kicking Huddersfield Town defender David Mirfin in the face."
This one was for for argy-bargy off the ball too with Rory shoving Dundee defender Declan Galagher in the box and the defender milking it by lying prone on the ground like he'd been shot. Video:
Only eight starts and seven as a sub in the SPL this season - and the one goal.
But Rory will be looking to guidance from the Boss Upstairs with regards any moves:
Wiki on his time at Plymouth: "He has revealed that he moves clubs based on what God tells him. He told the Guardian: "One club has come in for me, but I don't feel the Lord wants me to go. I will wait on what the Lord says. I don't feel I have got a clear message to leave yet, so I'm staying. I'm instructed by the Lord, and I keep telling people this. They probably think I'm mad, but I know full well that when Paul Sturrock came in and wanted me to go to Southend I had a dream and the Lord told me to stay at Plymouth. I have had no instructions since so I stay at Plymouth." The newspaper then sarcastically commented that Fallon did not realise the Plymouth Argyle chairman, Roy Gardner, is only a 'Sir' and not a 'Lord'."
Aberdeen have a new manager with Derek McInnes  in charge for the last three games from 21 April on...Craig Brown's fate was sealed after a home loss to Ross County in late February. McInnes was fired from Bristol City in January with that club spiralling to relegation.
Aberdeen seventh on the table with two rounds left - this Saturday away v. St Mirren and the final round at home v Hearts on Sat. 17.
I see whilst Celtic are going to win the Premier League, that minor club Rangers are champions of Div 3 (fourth tier of Scottish football) with a goal difference of +58 - however they still managed to lose three games. There are 32 teams ahead of Rangers now in the Scottish football pyramid...

Wouldn't suit the style of play we are trying to promote... however in seasons gone by he would have been a handy pick with the tatics we played.

The best he can hope for now is probably a league 2 gig i imagine.

He is a professional footballer earning his living in a decent league, and has been a good contributor for NZ

Isn't this enough Jeff?I agree not the type of player we should be looking at.
I didn't realise this was a thread where you get an A for participation. Ooohhh he earns a  living, must be the dogs bollocks..

Rory had his time. He can finish out his career doing what he likes but in terms of the future, he has zero value for NZF.

You get an A for participation at that level, of course. He could still have value for NZF
Exaggeration by you, whats new.

please explain how you feel he will have value to our side....
Whilst it was a couple of years ago, you need to watch a replay of the game against Australia. He looked a different class compared to those Australian defenders. He is a Rich man's Mcbreen and his record compared to Mcbreens overseas proves this fact. He is also a kiwi so we will not be wasting our one import spot left on this position and we are already wasting a few. His work rate is great and as we are losing our young ausi next year, that is a factor in my book. Above all he can head a ball. None of our strikers can do that at even an average level and bearing in mind our set piece should improve next year, that will be invaluable. I think at this stage of his career we could get him at a reasonable wage and we should snap him up.
that's a reasonable post.

I don't think he has a high work rate (outside of challenging for headers) I thought one of the main reasons he was removed from the AWs was that he showed that he really only had one trick (the aerial thing) and when you move away from that, he provides nothing. In an aerial ball world, he might be great form but with what the Phoenix are looking to move to, he gives us nothing. We have a big tall lad in Stein whom has a delightful first touch and can head a ball so...

he's actually quite good on the ground.  you should watch that game.

the biggest question mark for me is why has his career has deteriorated?  he was very highly rated by english scouts a few years back and was being watched by low-table premier league sides.  but his lack of goalscoring stopped him from getting a deal at a decent club.  he's gone from that to doing bugger all for aberdeen; this would be my only worry

If s/he was willing to come here (which I would highly doubt) and he was relatively cheap (which I think he would be) then he's something different (much, much, different to Stein) to what we have and in some contexts could even be useful. Sure, I don't see him getting much game time but he can do a job and he's (again) a Kiwi who is clearly capable of playing at A-league level, who will now have few options elsewhere. If he's willing, and the price is right - no brainer.

But again, I can't see it happening.

I don't think he is willing to come here and I do not think he will be cheap if he did. He has demanded a wedge where ever he has gone.

It seems the lower Fallon goes, the worse he performs and he is now very much going backwards and has no goalscoring history on his side. He can't knock Smeltz and others out of the national team when you look at comparable players in the same position and have/had played in the A League. He is a good person, of that I have no doubt so its not personal. Whats he going to do when he gets here? I just see a large target man (we have Stein for that) and considering the style of football we no longer play, for me, he is a one trick pony.

He is a crap footballer? No. Does he have much left? No. Would he go well in our system? I don't think so based on what Ernie has said, what Ernie has played and what we have in our team.

I think Fallon would hold his own in the A League and would suit a direct style of play, however with us moving away from this under Merrick he wouldn't be an ideal signing. Perhaps as a squad player to change things up if chasing a game etc, but beyond that maybe not much else.

However, can people stop comparing him to Stein and more importantly referring to Stein as a target man and saying he's good in the air. He's terrible in the air, he missed a fair share of decent chances last year on his head and struggled against all CB's in winning ariel balls.

Completely different players.

Whether Stein is a target man or not, he was used as one last year. Has a much better first touch than Fallon or in fact anyone in a stripey. As for being poor in the air, he is actually pretty good. You have to remember that just cause we lead the league in crosses into the box, doesn't mean they were quality crosses into the box.

I get what you mean about having him as a squad player to chase the game but a: We would like to ideally be ahead and b: We should not be signing squad players. If they are designated as 'squad player' (with the exception of developing youth) before the season starts, they should not be signed. They may turn into one, but they should not be signed as one.
