Talk in Denmark that he'll be thrown into the deep end for their next game, again vs. AGF in a week's time. Starting midfielders Zeca and Lucas Lerager are in quarantine and it seems half of Twitter wants him to get more game time
Not in match day squad as Copenhagen (3rd) beat AGF (4th) 3-2. Aussie Zach Duncan an unused sub for AGF.
4 rounds left in the Danish top flight. Copenhagen unlikely to catch top of the table Midtjylland (8 points clear). But could catch 2nd placed Brøndby (4 points ahead). Looks like the top 2 go into UCL qualifiers.
They played a left winger and a left back in the two central midfield spots, which angered a few FCK fans on Twitter who wanted to see youth play.
Marko doing fantastically in the U19 squad though - played 90 mins in the last few games. Scored the winner along with grabbing an assist, finishing a beautifully worked goal to beat rivals Midtjylland 3-2 a couple days back.
AGF also have Socceroos Alex Gersbach and Daniel Arzani, though Arzani is on loan, and also had Mustafa Amini leave the club in the last year. That being said, Arzani has only made one appearance for AGF and is quickly becoming the posterboy for leaving the A League too early, which would hopefully act as a cautionary tale for players like Waine and Sutton.
Of their Championship Playoff (top 6 of the league) they have Nordsjælland and Randers (5th and 6th) away but also Midtjylland and biggest rivals Brøndby (1st and 2nd) at home, with the Danish games having reasonable-sized crowds (today’s game had over 10,000) so should be a special atmosphere should Marko get given a run.
Long shot for Copenhagen to win the title. Need to win, Midtjylland to lose, and Brøndby to manage at best 2 draws from their remaining 2 games. Both Midtjylland and Brøndby have much better GD than Copenhagen.
At worst Copenhagen will somehow want 2nd, and a UCL qualifying spot.
Not in match day squad, as Copenhagen (down to 10 men from 56 mins) finish the season with a 2-1 loss at Randers (6th). Nikola Mileusnic (Ex Adelaide United) a 86th min sub for Randers.
Loss means Copenhagen (55 pts) end up 3rd, and qualify for the Europa League. Brøndby (61 pts) ended up winning the title a point ahead of Midtjylland (60 pts).
Next for Stamenic Tokyo build up I guess. He had one start & one bench spot in the Superliga.
Subbed on in the 60th minute and picks up a yellow in a 3-1 friendly win over Lyngby. That’s two first-team appearances in a row, albeit in friendlies where other youth products are tested
"Most of the men’s Olympic squad is already in Tokyo and training. Of the 22-man squad, a quick trawl through NZF’s social media suggests that the only ones missing are Michael Boxall, Joe Bell... and Marko Stamenic. All of whom had club yarns to take care of first. Bell and Boxall are squeezing in the last couple games with their seasons in the middle of things while Stamenic? Well, he got a cheeky start in a preseason match against CSKA Moscow.
It wasn’t a full strength eleven, it never is at the start of preseason, but the fella got a full game against one of the top teams in Russia (they played this game in Austria, by the way) who had Mário Fernandes, Igor Diveev, Maksim Mukhin, and Anton Zabolotny all starting after they featured for Russia at the Euros last month. Teenager Rasmus Højlund scored the only goal as FCK won the friendly 1-0. Look for Marko in #35 in the highlights here, playing as a holding midfielder."
True... but in that 30 seconds I did get to see other players put themselves about and others around him, work back harder than him in the wider shots.
No doubt he's a talent... I just think he looked lazy when he was in shot. Just an opinion.
Fair. Watching the whole game, I found that was actually one of his standout attributes - something he's usually weak at. They seem insistent on playing him as a 6, not an 8 like we would in the national team. Some very wayward passing in the game though, definitely not his best outing.
From this week's Flying Kiwis. Hopefully he gets some minutes against Olyroos on Thursday.
"More good preseason vibes here as Marko Stamenic got another solid run out in FCK’s final preseason match. After playing the full contest in a win over CSKA Moscow last week, he’s gotten to play the second half of a 1-0 defeat against Rapid Wien. The loss was a fair result on the surface but of course friendly games are never all about the result. Stamenic has only played one senior game for the club to date but has gotten some great opportunities here on this tour, helped by club captain Carlos Zeca being unable to travel with the group after contracting the coronavirus. Zeca being a central midfielder too and all. Regardless, it’s great to see Stamenic working his way quickly up the pecking order at the club.
Good shot in those highlights of Stamenic having a crack at goal from outside the area late on, albeit he hits it straight at the keeper. There’s also a missed tackle down the right wing and a cross that he blocks in the mix. It’s the opportunities that matter most though – the fact that he’s getting these games at all. And with the team heading back to Denmark now ahead of the new season kicking off next week, Marko Stamenic will say his temporary farewells as he instead heads in the other direction to join up with the OlyWhites in Japan (who are fresh from a 2-0 warm-up game win over Australia... yeah get some).
Up Next: Season opener for the non-Olympian FCK lads is 2am on Monday against AaB (NZT)"
Hopefully they can make the group stage, the Conference League was made for clubs like Copenhagen, and will add more chances for game time, and probably some unique away experiences.
1997 we had our Kombi broken into in Bulgaria. Admittedly you could unlock the drivers door with a fork. Had to stay overnight in Sofia with a friendly policeman's parents in one of those ugly Soviet era apartment blocks. Never drink potato schnapps with a 70 yr battle hardened Bulgarian grand mother.
From next week a 2 legged tie against Turkish side Sivasspor - where Tyler Boyd was on loan last season. So a little Ole linkage. Copenhagen win that and they go into the Group Stage proper.
Turkish league starts this weekend, so I'll guess we will find out then, if Boyd is still at Besiktas or wherever.
Not in matchday squad as Copenhagen (3rd) win 3-1 at AGF (11th). Another who might benefit from a loan deal somewhere?
And here's a story with a link to Denmark, relevant with such a sad future situation now for women & girls in Afghanistan. Hopefully one day all little girls around the world can grow up and freely play the beautiful game. One day.
Agree with the loan deal. This is his level, but on a team with the massive expectations of Kobenhavn he's not going to be risked ahead of the four internationals they have at CM right now. A mid-to-low table Danish team would be perfect - though I wonder if Helsingor might make a play?
I'm sure Stamenic will be known to Helsingor. 3 other ex Ole alumini on their books.
Depends if they see a need for another CM as they chase promotion. Seems they have ambitious American owners, so I'm sure promotion is definitely the aim this season.
Every other outfield sub was used except him, which sucks.
If four full internationals in central midfield wasn't already enough for them, they just signed a 19y/o Icelandic international CM on loan with a buy option from Bologna. It's a logjam
and they've signed ANOTHER Icelandic international in midfield... can't make this shark up. Hope Stamenic sneaks in a loan move soon. That's six full European internationals with Stamenic in central midfield now
