Disappointing that he hasn't really kicked on...
Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest | England)
Its a 40yo Kevin Phillips.......
And I think Phillips is the type of player that you'd use to get you promoted but not necessarily a player you'd keep around in the top flight. He has vast experience in these situations and would bring so much to a club trying to win automatic promotion.
Leeds v Leicester - LIVE Sommet Sports 1.10 am Sunday

Kevin Phillips is only contracted to the end of the season and has already said this will be his last - may change his mind if Leicester gain promotion and the club still wants him:
Is chasing his fifth promotion to the Premiership (prev. with Palace, Sunderland, West Brom, Birmingham) - pretty incredible....
I'd imagine Phillips would be on the subs bench this weekend at best if his clearance has come through as I don't think he's trained with the team yet...
This article suggests Phillips will be there mostly as an impact sub and to mentor the young strikers like Wood at the club:
Leicester have also signed capable 23 year-old French Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez from Le Havre (different position and no threat to Wood).
You would think Chris will pushing his hardest to earn his place back considering the potential of his effort in doing so, either remain and get game time or get picked up by promotion hopefuls for next season

Maybe not a good sign when a 40 year-old comes off the bench instead of you (Kevin Philips).
He's be better-off at a another less successful Championship club where he would get more game time...
Definitely seems that even if he were to get into the Premier League he would struggle to get game time.
Didn't make the squad for 2-0 win v Boro.

Some injury concern lead to Chris being rested. Tight hamstring after playing 86 mins for the u-21's last Monday:

On New Zealand international Wood, who played 86 minutes of a 2-1 win for City’s Under-21s at West Brom on Monday, Pearson added: “Chris won’t be training today. He has a tight hamstring but I don’t think there is anything for us to be too concerned about."

Good players get dropped.
The fact is, the other strikers have been scoring goals this year, thus why they are topping the championship. Why would a coach change a squad which is clearly doing well.
He will get his chance, and he needs to be ready, but its far too early to suggest that his career is stagnating or similar. He's been on the bench for less than 6 months of which a couple have ben due to injury.
Relax.
Agree, why transfer off somewhere else when the club he's with ahs every chanc eof promotion to the EPL? Much beeter chance of playing than trying to get noticed and bought by another EPL club in the future.
he's been in the same situation before (at WBA) and look what happened. If Leicester go up, it's quite likely (based on his current lack of playing time) that they will move him on again. If they don't see him as Championship quality, why would they think he's EPL quality?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him tearing up as much as everyone else... in either competition.
But he isn't. And he won't keep getting opportunities without changing something. Obviously you guys know what the answer is - cos I don't. (and don't pull out the "all strikers have streaks/barren patches" line, as whilst it's true that won't get him into the EPL).
So he takes a punt and asks for a transfer to a non-prem club and crosses his fingers that he gets picked up by a prem club later? Rather than stay put and fight for a place? I know what I'd do. Also a bit unfair comparing his current situation to one that happened 2 years ago.
His current situation where he's sitting on the bench and the club just bought in another striker?... seems a pretty clear comparison to me.
He's definitely a championship level player. He's proved that much for sure. Welbeck and Hernandez haven't been getting game time. Does that make them not EPL level players? Same with Adebayor prior to Sherwin arriving.
The question is can he take his game up a step and force his way into the starting line up. Certainly definitely better to be at a prem club than in the Championship at this point- as I don't think he's got a lot to prove in the Championship, in terms of he's scored a lot of goals there. If he's at a prem club there's always a chance of him getting on the bench and on given injuries etc etc.
For example- how far do you think he is behind Nickolas Bendtner? Yet he's been getting a bit of game time. How far behind Carlton Cole do you think he is?

As much as I like wood, I actually Think he is a long way away from either those strikers in ability (particularly the Dane)
I think its a simple case of the starting players are in form and Kevin Phillips has a guile and experience to ensure that Leicester make the EPL.
Sadly Chris is not match fit so is behind them, he would be better to go out on loan (Leeds needs a good striker to play of McCormick for instance), regain his match fitness and his eye for a goal and then see what happens.
I feel he's still a couple of years away from his peak, just look at where Smeltz was when he was 22.

But both of those players have reached the limit of their ability. I think Chris Wood is capable of stepping it up from where he is now. Sorry Spurs fans..Sherwood...!!
Quoting this so I can find it again. In a few years, when Carlton Cole is playing in the all-conquering Barcelona team, I will bring this up again and everyone will laugh at you.
Personally I don't think that Wood will ever be a Premier League striker. Unlike defenders/keepers, strikers don't tend to get a great deal better with age, and the limits of his game (movement, mobility) will not develop a great deal more. His level is about mid table championship and that is nothing to be scoffed at. In his current situation, it would make no sense to try to drop down now, as the money is as good as he will be able to get at the moment, and he is pretty close to winning a championship medal and getting the opportunity to get on the bench or play in the premier league. It makes no sense to give this up at the moment (although it could all change if the club decide that they don't want him any more once promoted).
Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is hopeful Ignasi Miquel and Chris Wood will be fit for the trip to face Bournemouth on Saturday.
Centre-back Miquel has been struggling with a thigh strain while Wood has had a tight hamstring which has kept him out of the last two games.
But the pair resumed training today and will be assessed tomorrow before Pearson decides on his squad to travel down to the south coast.
The return of Miquel will ease Pearson’s concerns about a lack of defensive cover having lost Liam Moore to a broken rib and Sean St Ledger’s on-going injury problems.
Marcin Wasilewski added to those concerns when he received a blow to the foot at Birmingham on Tuesday night but the Poland international is expected to be fit.
“Ignasi is training today and I am hopeful he will be available for Saturday,” said Pearson at today’s pre-match press conference at Belvoir Drive. “Whether he will be selected is another thing.
“Chris Wood is okay. We initially had him in the squad for Birmingham but because he has had one or two issues with his hamstring this season, and at best he was going to be on the bench, we felt it was more beneficial for him to get another training session under his belt.
“We had a few knocks and Marcin had a heavy collision on his foot but he will be fine. He is tough and he has been really good for us as well.”
better a championship prince than a premier league pauper
He'll be fine.Just needs a few more goals/assists against his name. All he can do is get himself fit and wait for his chance.

Some astute comments there.
fuck you and your sarcasm
Let's just review where Wynton Rufer was at aged 22. Facts are always interesting versus opinions. When Chris Wood plays regularly he scores goals - this season has not been great for him but doesn't make him any less promising than this time last year when he was on a hot streak.

How to Be Sarcastic
Edited by Imperatrix, Lucas Halbert, Flickety, Krystle and 28 others
"Sarcasm is a finely wrought tool that can be honed and used for good or bad purposes. If you are sarcastic at the wrong time or with the wrong person, you may end up hurting someone’s feelings, but sarcasm can also bring laughs and smiles so long as you use good-natured humor and avoid insults. It may even make it easier to deal with people who enjoy bringing others down."
1. Choose your target carefully. Avoid people who could beat you up physically or verbally or are authority figures. Being sarcastic with a teacher or a police officer could cause you trouble. If you want the respect of your teacher or another adult, use respectful language.
Let's just review where Wynton Rufer was at aged 22. Facts are always interesting versus opinions. When Chris Wood plays regularly he scores goals - this season has not been great for him but doesn't make him any less promising than this time last year when he was on a hot streak.
That award came after he scored nine goals for Zurich FC in helping them into a major European championship...
...He was picked up by fellow Swiss first division club FC Aarau. Again, his impact was immediate.
His goal-scoring feats shot his new club to the top of the division. Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said: "At the moment Rufer only plays at 80 per cent of his potential. At 100 per cent he will be an excellent player."
He was a star playing in front of crowds not even All Blacks could imagine.
More than 95,000 watched him play for Zurich against Benfica...."
Thanks Pete. Didn't realise Rufer was quite so established in Switzerland at that point, and I'm not suggesting Wood will be as good as Rufer, but I think 20 goals in a full champo season last year shows his potential.
I think if Chris was in Europe, say Switzerland, Belgium or possibly the Netherlands, he would be starting in their top flight. Lets not forget the Championship is a better league then most top divisions on the continent.
