Thought he looked good for the short time he was on. Busy, strong on the ball, and always looking to make something happen. And clearly, needs the ball at his feet . . .

Sounds like Chris wasn't very sharp, so got dragged at half-time:

"A string of missed opportunities in the first half frustrated The Foxes, but with the addition of Lloyd Dyer and Anthony Knockaert at half time and a change of formation, City got what they deserved eventually.

The manager stressed how important it was to get the most from all the members of his squad afterwards, adding: “We created a few more chances today (than we have recently) and I think the players that didn’t start and came on gave us a better response than they did at Derby.

“Over the course of the season we’ll need all the players to contribute when they get the chance. Today it was a good effort by all the players.

“It’s pleasing to get the three points but we could have made life a bit easier for ourselves. I think we clearly didn’t take the chances we created in the first half, which was a bit frustrating, and we allowed them to get something to defend with really their only opportunity.

Went and watched Wood v Charlton on Saturday.

Brilliant game of football, one of the better I have been to over here, surprisingly. Cracking atmosphere at The Valley, very end-to-end and a good amount of niggle, 7 minutes of stoppage. The Foxes went down 2-1, unlucky as Schmeichel was horrendously manhandled off a corner for the Addicks second.

Wood came on around the 70th I think. Didn't have a massive involvement, but is surely no worse than Vardy who is usually pretty pants, and wasn't great again on Saturday. Vardy also has a twat of a haircut, but that's an aside. No real chances for Wood, major chances weren't particularly falling his way. I was surprised he didn't start given his hatty during the week, though he does have that tendency to destroy minnows.

So... Nothing really of note re Wood sadly. Schmeichel really is a fantastic keeper - can see how he topped the keeping charts in the League last year.

Leicester top of the table now after winning this morn. Wood comes off the bench

Sounds like an easy win over Blackburn 2-1 yesterday, Wood on at 79 mins and influential in short cameo:

"....Chris Wood replaced Knockaert with the Foxes again tinkering with their system in an effort to see out the match.

It was to be a nervous finish though as, with 10 minutes to go Rovers skipper Dann saw a bullet header saved by Schmeichel, before the ‘keeper launched a lightning counter attack that had Vardy appealing for a penalty on Taylor that wasn’t given.

Wood proved to be an excellent outlet up front for the Foxes though and it served to quell the Rovers threat in the final 10 minutes, as the striker also had a goal narrowly ruled out for offside.

It would not matter though, as even with Vardy hitting the post in the 90th minute, City were able to hold on for the win that moved them joint top of the Championship table."

City (4-4-2):Schmeichel; De Laet, Morgan (c), Moore, Konchesky (Wood 79); Knockaert, Drinkwater, King, Dyer (Hammond 74); Nugent, Vardy.

Got to remember, although Woodsy isn't seeing much game time, he is playing for currently the form team in the Championship.
Leicester are ambitious and are signing players good enough to take them to the Premiership e.g. have just signed 60 cap Poland central defender  Marcin Wasilewski from Anderlecht.

“We need to keep working hard and maintaining the standards we’ve set so far, bearing in mind that we’ve got real competition for places.

“The players that currently have the positions know that they’ve got to be playing at their best to maintain their position in the side. All in all I think the players understand what we’re trying to do and that’s the important thing.”

At 32 surely only a season or two left in him - and not  a prolific goal-scorer at Blackpool (one goal every six games !!!). Woodsy will outlast him, for sure:

"Former Blackpool striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher has joined fellow Championship side Leicester City on a one-year deal.

During six years with the Seasiders, the 32-year-old scored 36 goals in 215 league appearances"

Match reports - on top of his good showing v Bournemouth on the weekend, Chris looking really good for Mexico in two weeks!

https://www.lcfc.com/news/article/291013-match-report-city-4-fulham-3-1143503.aspx

Nigel Pearson made five changes to his side from the weekend’s win over Bournemouth - Miquel, Dean Hammond, Matty James, Jeff Schlupp and Wood all handed starts in a 4-2-3-1 formation for the Foxes.

Liam Moore, Andy King, Dyer, Jamie Vardy and Nugent were the men dropping to the bench, as Pearson rotated the same matchday 18 he has deployed in the last two league games.

Fulham meanwhile made nine changes to the XI that lost to Southampton on Saturday, with Senderos and Steklenburg the only survivors in a side captained by Aaron Hughes.

City started the game by pressing their opponents hard, looking to deny them time on the ball and on seven minutes that almost forced an opening.

Fulham skipper Hughes misread an early ball over the top that was chased down by Wood, but despite the New Zealand striker’s calls for handball, referee Keith Stroud was having none of it.....

.....With just five minutes left of the half, City got their reward for their enterprising play, as Derek Boatang went into the book for a foul on Hammond about 30 yards out.

Unsurprisingly, Knockaert stepped up to the mark and drilled a thunderous shot at goal, which proved too hot to handle for Stekelenburg, who could only fumble into the path of Morgan to gratefully head into the corner of the net.

Just four minutes later it was another defensive error that proved to be Fulham’s undoing.

Under pressure form Konchesky, Senderos made a mess of his clearance, which struck the City defender and fell kindly to Wood in the box, who slotted into the corner from six yards out to give the Foxes a deserved half-time lead.

SECOND HALF:

....Both sides seemed to have their bit between their teeth but it was again City who could have added to their lead with four chances one after another.

Wood’s excellent improvised volley was tipped over by the ‘keeper, Dyer’s effort was blocked, as was James’ before Schlupp pulled his effort wide from a good position.....

City (4-4-2): Schmeichel, Konchesky (Dyer 46), Drinkwater, Morgan (c), Hammond, James, Schlupp, Miquel, Knockaert, Wasilewski, Wood

Subs not used: Vardy, King, Moore, Taylor-Fletcher, Logan, Nugent

Goals: Morgan 41, Wood 45, Miquel 50, Dyer 90

Fulham (4-4-1-1): Stekelenburg, Riise, Senderos, Kacaniklic, Karagounis, Duff (Ruiz 56), Hughes (c), Taarabt, Rodallega (Bent 64), Zverotic, Boatang (Sidwell 81)

Subs not used: Stockdale, Dejagah, David, Amorebieta

Goals: Rodallega 18, 51 Karagounis 87

Attendance: 17,937

BBC report (incl. live match thread): https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24619466

"The Cottagers boss made nine changes from the side defeated at St Mary's - but that could have had as much to do with their failure to create a single chance at the weekend rather than any sense of Jol showing his priorities...."
