The WaiBOP United Thread
City will put double figures past them.

I know it's pre-season, but are they really going to grab another 9 goals when they turn it on? I don't think a 10-0 scoreline has ever happened in the league. I could see 5-0, 7-1, but I don't think the routs will be any worse than the old times of Otago Waikato and Manawatu.
They will cause they will be chasing the record for most goals in a season.
They'll score a couple early, all the young bucks will drop heads, all of a sudden its 10-0.
In the current incarnation of the national league we've had two 9-1 wins and two 8-0 wins.
In the old national league there were a couple of 9-0s.
While it would be dissappointing if these kids did concede a scoreline like you suggest, I guess the most important thing if they do is that they learn from this scoreline, and any other losses in the ASBP for that matter. These are all 18 (or younger) year old kids who are preparing for a tournament in 2015. If they do lose 10-0 to ACFC on 8th Jan, then they must get better next time they play them on 9th Feb.
Next year they will all be 19 (or younger) so the gap must close, they must secure more wins to show they are improving and putting themselves in the best position to do NZ proud in 2015.
Let's not lose sight of "why" they're in the ASBP for the next 2 years. And if not playing a minimum of 28 games over the next 2 years against the best domestic players in NZ then what better preparation could they have for 2015?
to be fair, auckland city could be 8 goals better than a few asb prem sides.
anyone know the squad for the U20's - sorry Wanderers SC.

Was interested to go and watch the new wider ASBP NZ U20's squad beat WaiBoP team 2-1 in a pre season friendly yesterday afternoon at North Harbour Stadium.
The U20's looked good and I think they will really push other ASBP teams.
Enthusiasm is there, but I doubt very much they will trouble other ASBP teams.
On a positive, it is great that they will have a few games at a decent level.
Anyone knows where Slefandorfas is?
Wasn't at the HBU or NZ U20 warmup games due to having some family in the country or something but now he's truly disappeared. If he's unreliable, along with Manko going back overseas after four games, WaiBOP are going to struggle scoring goals big time.
bredeveldt wouldn't be a bad replacement would he?

I actually think Milos will play well this year. For someone who their main perceived flaw is workrate, he's been working very hard in the offseason, winning a lot of headers and making good runs, putting in some excellent deliveries too.
I think he's found his level at WaiBOP, and he should knock in a few goals.
Bredeveldt is very handy, but Slefandorfas just adds an extra dimension as a hold up man and threat from set pieces, I hope he can suit up and stay on the park.

Bredeveldt is actually different type of player. Fast, technically very good, can also play wide and good finisher. At the times can be lazy. He did spent a few years in Germany (it may be at the some club or league as White from Auckland City) , but didn't manage to stay.
Slefandorfas is an overrated player who got lucky to score 11 of his 13 goals in three games against very weak opposition (against Hawkes Bay 5 goals in 7:0 win, against Waikato 4 goals in 5:0 win and another 2 goals against Manawatu 4:0 win). Hi is strong and can hold the ball up, but that's pretty much it. In recent games, which I watched, he needed several chances to score a goal, he couldn't read the game (most of the time wasn't in the space where should be), chose wrong option and often inaccurate in his passing. He seems to be a nice guy.
I believe Nikolic can be an influential player for WaiBop. This is only if he can give 120% every game (get involved in 50:50 challenges as well as defensive work, stay focused and positive). I share N-Bomb's view that he more than capable scoring goals.
Manko plays defensive/attacking mid position. In a few games that I watched he was very inconsistent in his play. From been very good in one game, to having very poor performance in another (most of the time: to many touches, poor vision, wrong passing, wrong options, playing to safe not looking up). He's qualities are: that he fights very hard to win the ball back, makes a striker's runs to add to the attacking strength ans can score a couple of goals, generally good passing, can hold the ball up).
Slefandorfas is fit and available for selection but didn't make the squad, mcnabb from Tauranga city united is the back up striker. Bredeveldt and Milos can both be very negative from my experiences with them so will be interesting to see their attitude if the team starts losing! But on the other hand if they hit it off could be goals goals goals. Bredeveldt will get on the scoresheet more than Milos in my opinion but guess we will see sunday!

I've seen differently in pre-season, but I'll have a good look at that tomorrow because he does definitely posses those habits.
Interesting to see Slefandorfas not make the squad, I do think there could be something more to that, maybe Smith just hasn't seen him enough in the pre-season due to his absence.
The squad looked so promising with the potential addition of Irving, Marquez and one of Mulligan/Coombes, now it seems to be trending right back towards the usual Waikato FC team, with an added dose of defensive stability.

I agree, re their attitude if they start loosing as well that they can score... What WaiBop needs is a creative midfield who can feed the ball to these two. I am not sure that they currently have such a player.
JV, I am pretty sure there was Nikolic's video on YouTube. It may help you to clear some perception...
I've seen him play about 20 odd times for ECB, Waikato, Central, ACFC. I've not really seen anything from him that says he has changed over the years. He needs a coach to scream at him to get his head up. Technically good on the ball but very soft. He would do well to cut the strings to his dad and have an old school coach that will knock him into shape.

Agree...

Milos & Manko ... Hmmm. Hope it won't turn into a comedy double act. Either way you guys on the sideline should have lots to shout about.

2-1. Up and running! Come on you Waibopamooloos! Well done.

I wish! Reckon I should put $500 on Fallon & Brockie to get a couple at the Azteca?

Do you do much research of teams, players etc. before matches? Also what's the pay like?
Fancy the job, Buffy? Be no good for you... Theses days they make you sign a contract that their stringers must never criticise NZ Football, or federations, or any of their personnel in any media or forums etc.

I'm going to work on the basis of $25
good on you n-bomb, i'm sure some good stuff will come of it for you
as for NZF applying the 'personality' gag, i must say that that is stuff of the dark ages

I stand by this opinion ;-).
Deserved victory, they really put it all together after a rough first twenty or so minutes. Canterbury were poor in the midfield, but this is a pretty big win to start the year.
Next Sunday v ACFC at Kiwitea should be v good. Looking forward to it (tho the public mood may be influenced by what happens at the Azteca).
I took a stroll through Stuff this morning and you could not find two more opposite reports on the 1 game

You would have to think the Waikato Times version was correct based on the fact it was in their town
Yeah I think Auckland should get a very easy victory, but then again, that'll happen with most teams. If WaiBOP can show that they're strong at the back and play some ok football then I think the result shouldn't be of too much consquence.
