This thread brings the lolz.

I'll recap for everyone:

Person A: Here's my opinion...

Person B: I disagree. My opinion is this...

Person A: Well I don't care about your opinion cos you can't prove it.

Person C: Here are some facts backing up Person B's opinion. Also my opinion is it's a wider problem than originally stated.

Person A: LOL! You think numbers and fancy graphs matter. It might disprove what I said but that's irrelevant cos I know that I'm right. Also Unicorns.

Person D: Well you are all wrong but I won't explain why since I'd just like to jump in here to have a dig at Person X over there - he smells funny.

Me: *Sits back giggling*

I look forward to next week's episode of this classic soap!

For once I agree with you. However the Phoenix must be concerned with the TV viewing figures for there games?

This site might help you.

And to answer. No. They get the same proportion of the TV revenue.

You got the Aussie link.....

Wasnt talking about the revenue more the fact that 15k a game doesnt seem that high

15k whats? People watching the TV coverage? Because that's grossly inaccurate.

15k was quoted by Mike Cockerill in recent SMH article.

Is that not correct?

You would assume he would have accurate figures no?

Unless he was refering to figures for Phoenix home games broadcast in Aussie?

Well a total of 66k watched the game last weekend, and that doesn't include any of us who were at the game.

So wait, let me get this right...

It's my fault that, because I am Australian and crowd numbers of sporting events in New Zealand have been on the decline, Mike Cockerill has now decided to make it worse by saying that only 15000 unicorns watch the A-League, and that other guy smells and David Mitchell finds this extremely hilarious?

I get that local club support for Team Wellington has fallen off now that Miramar has largely taken over the ASBP franchise and that Dave Farrington Park may be hard to get to but is that the main reason turn out to watch TW has fallen so dramatically? From an average of about 1200 a game eight years ago to under 200 now. That's a mighty drop in interest, yet the current TW side is probably the best they've fielded.

I know attendances at ASBP games across the board have declined, but nothing like TW's plummet. If Canterbury or Hawkes Bay had the current TW team and were in the O League I'm sure they'd be seeing decent crowds at home games.

As an aside how much truth is there that the Phoenix will be playing three or even four games in Auckland next season because Wellington Phoenix crowds are still below break even? I've heard there is serious talk of this behind closed doors at Welnix. That could be enough of a local live fix to deter some current Auckland football fans from going to Kiwitea Street.

Hello.

It was helpful to see the graph of TW attendance figures. I don't know enough about all the subjective factors in Wellington to suggest any sort of cause and effect relationship around the trend.

But by way of historic comparison, below is a summary of attendance figures from the 1977 national league season, which some of you may be interested in. Wellington represented by Stop Out (runners-up) and Wellington Diamond United that year.

In its home programme against Trans Tours United (Christchurch) on August 6, 1978, Hamiltion AFC took the rare step of publicising the official attendance figures for all national league for the 1977 season.

Hamilton's season aggregate attendance of 8170 was the third highest in the league and it reported the single highest match attendance for all clubs, of 1455 versus Mt Wellington.

Taking nix games to akl would be folly and I'd be concerned if I was a nix fan(hahaha!). Would put the welly fans offside and would reduce the novelty factor in akl and would negatively affect asbp

I love the Jafas talking about crowds in Wellington.
Of the games I've been too at Kiwitea St. It's never been full, even for so called Super city derby.

Hi Yellowsite

Sorry, I should probably have referenced the post a bit more specifically for the benefit of those who hadn't digested all the tangents of this thread.

It shows there were the seeds of similar issues with match attendance in Wellington over 35 years ago.

In an era of not so many competing attractions, look at some of those Stop Out figures (from a well-performing club at the time).

Hope this helps.

Southern were pretty poor. Barely tested TW despite having a man advantage for 60 minutes after Corralas brain explosion.

Looking back through the ACFC highlights, and I don't want to get beaten up,but it does rather look like TW should have had their keeper sent off when they were just 2-0 up...
