This will be a familiar sight this season...

Thats the free kick Canterbury scored, what side of the goal did the wall get lined up for and to cover what? Don't know many GKs that stand in middle of goal for a free kick, just say have a free shot in side either post mate.
Well thats not Tom Batty, he had shirt 22 on so you could be correct.
Batty played the first 45 mins and beaten twice by piss poor defending. Volley in first minute past him be some twat [to qoute one of K Braithwaites sayings] of a team mate. Tom saved Kamo shot for second Cant goal but Kamo had momentum to slot in parried save while Tom tried to get to second shot, what was the CB doing scratching his balls? As he was closer to his own goal than Kamo by several metres when he should have put his head to the ball from Highfields [Cant keeeper] punt and if he doesn't have the skill to do that stick you f**king boot to the ball and give away a throw in NOT a goal.
SU did have a few players that looked sharpish but looked more like a junior trial with subs off and on and off, who can get into a game
with that sort of changes.
Last five or so weeks was time for that trial stuff.
We don't do that in Masters grade when your 60 years old, get on stay on for 90 or sub off and stay off.
Should be playing most of starters for next weekend for at least 70 mins.
As for Jude didn't want to [sign contact] play after having been a top performer in training games was the word at the game.
Was a bit pissed I take it at being over looked in original selection. cant blame him when you see what talent, cough, has been picked.
SU would've put Cant under pressure with Jude and Matt   J leading the rear guard.

Found that out after five minutes of watching the first game i've seen him coaching at. What about the drivel doing the facebook circuit about SU starting 5 players short on Saturday. You had 1X to start the game how many of the missing are going to start v Waitak?
Reading the media /RB hype on style of play they are aiming for you would think by now the players he has selected as the best in the South would ALL be able to pass a futaball, not just 4 of them and one of those is your keeper [1st half] with racking 50+metre pin point passes.
What was the most used instruction [2nd half] from this Brazilian  coach with the Samba style, bang it long down the side line at every chance. We can defend that OneDirection play till I need to go and milk the cows.
Some one tell LH that was how Keith B used to have his club teams play to WIN [4 MPL] TITLES in tight games and has grown to let his ASB Prem players be more creative with the pill.
I see last night the Phoenix have taken to the SU art of defending school as well at least the nix defender got his head on something.

Same here am looking forward to the ASB Prem getting under way.
Can someone introduce Tom Batty to his SU team mates [other than MJ] so he knows who the opposition are, he may have it easier this weekend knowing his team as to playing against 13.
By the way Tom has played more football games with more of the Waitakere team than the SU boys apart from Matt Joy.

Looking for an SU win to get the season off to a great start. Canterbury and Southern in the finals.

Schnieder out with concussion. Based on how they were shaping up on Tuesday night, Sam Mepham will play quite deep, possibly a start for Higgins at LB.

Agh.
I thought Batty was the Tech keeper?
Or is it confirmed he is on the bench for 1st game for SU.

Hi Rab
Just a wee note of interest
Me and Michael took a Mosgiel Under 19 side to the lotto tournament in Christchurch over the long weekend
We topped our pool on the fist day, beat Southland in the quarter final, came up against Coastal Spirit in the semi ( Coastal had won the tournament the last two years ) we despatched them 4 -0 with a performance by the team that any coach would be proud of setting up a final with Nomads.
We went 1 nill up through a well taken goal by James McGarry in the first half
Two minutes into the second half in which was a average decision, the ref sent of Ryan McGarry
He showed one yellow for a tackle, in which Ryan had won the ball and then a second in the same infringement for kicking the ball away in which all the lad had done was play on ...
The boys from then on in played out of there skins, they continued attacking and playing the ball around and with 5 minutes to go we got a second through James McGarry
Final score in the final 2 nill to Mosgiel
All the lads played well but to single out a couple, Cody Brook was composed, showed a great first touch and linked well with James McGarry
James McGarry scored 7 goals including a brace in the final and capped of an outstanding weekend by being voted player of the tournament

Cheers

 single out a couple...

Hey Brookside, heard the Mosgiel plan is to skip South Island U19s next year and go to Napier satellite. Can you confirm?

NatPevin can't be there to cheer you SU lads on in the weekend. But NatPevin will get down on his football knees tonight and pray to the Football Gods for mercy.  Please don't let it be worse than the start last year against Waikato!  Hang tough boys - give it everything, fight for every ball.  Your dignity and Otago's (and Southland's whatever) is at stake. Teams are included above. First impressions for me are that in what is already a fairly inexperienced squad Southern squad, alot of the key players who have played alot of games at this level are missing which makes their job difficult. Sam MEPHAM, Morgan DAY, Matt JOY and Regan COLDICOTT all absent from the starting 11. Tom BATTY wins the starting spot between the sticks which on preseason form, in my view is the right decision. Logan WRIGHTWEBB wins a debut start. He will have good memories of this ground scoring a 93rd winner for his club side University in a FootballSouth Premier League match here in May. Of note for the visitors, captain Jake BUTLER is on his way to Mexico with the All Whites and that is a big loss for them although coach Paul TEMPLE is thrilled that he's in the squad. Former Dunedin Technical players Tristan PRATTLEY and TIM MYERS have both missed the trip to Dunedin, although Myers was under a big injury cloud.

Mark Currie got to agree here what an inexperienced team, surly Danny boy would be better than Pete Rae up front (nothing against Pete)

Lucky it was only 3.  Last ditch tackles are good - but it's not a sign of good defending.  The defensive shape in open play was poor - the full backs were woeful and we are terrible at defending set pieces.  Batty and Ebanda were the only ones who looked at the right level.  Aajay and Hindson had good moments.  Tyler ran around a lot - good on him he will improve, but what did the Brazilian even do?  It was a horrible performance against the worst Waitak side in years.

Wrong Peter.  The report said Rae did well.  He had one or two good moments but it's a game of 90 minutes not three.  Overmire was poor - no positional sense.  Being a half decent athlete one thing, but if he doesn't learn his lines soon he's screwed.  Having Matt next to him will help I think.  Put Atwood at fullback or in the midfield.  He's not a centre-back's backside.

And your reports carry a lot more weight in my mind than any of RS's.  But to say he didn't do a lot wrong just doesn't gel.  Look I was too hard on him because I expected more.  He was the best of the poor defenders, but still a long way off this level.  It's not solely about what he didn't do wrong, but what he did right as well.  He needed to organise the back four better for starters you just can't play for yourself, you have to play for your team-mates and cover then properly. I didn't see that from him today.  He's smart, he will learn I hope.
