hey Luis. Can you shed any light on Bertie's reasons for deciding to opt out of the squad?
Tasman United
I believe he is just over playing football.

one arrival, three departures
From the Nelson Mai - Tasman vs Wee Nix wrap l:
I believe he is just over playing football.
That's a pity, he was a talented kid and had had trials at pro teams in Europe. Great dude as well, used to be my next door neighbor!
First sacking of the season?
I wondered if the coach has been a naughty boy going by this comment "until we can actually resolve the matter"
On a brighter note. "In the space of five months, Tasman United's Tinashe Marowa has gone from not having a football club to a trial with the Wellington Phoenix."
No one begrudges Marowa. Goodluck to the auckland product. But his papers to play and resident status would be interesting to know for club and country in light of the Declan wynne fiasco.
The sour grapes on my part are - some players like de Vries have been putting in solid performances for years not just half a season and have they had trials? Or is it just who you know again. E.g. ifill towers.
Tinashe left Auckland for Ole/Wests for a couple of seasons, before a failed US College stint. He's made the most of his opportunity at Tasman though. Good luck to him for his trial.

He bounced around a few clubs in Auckland as well before moving.
phoenix 'trials' are fairly common
and yes, de vries spent a bit of time with the phoenix i think at the start of last season?
De Vries likely isn't high on the Phoenix radar because of his eligibility issues. He's not worth an import spot, so why take the risk until you know he can be counted as a Kiwi.
Sounds like a solid performance, by all accounts! A draw with the league leaders on the back of a bit of turmoil is a great result.

Any word on Coach issue?
From the Nelson Mail:
I just text the Tasman United board member to ask what was up with the coaching situation.
His reply was, verbatim "Yeah mate the media is making it a bit difficult at the moment... but unfortunately I'm not permitted to extend on it any further for now. All I can say is that it isn't as terrible as the media make it sound. Hopefully we can tell all the fans the full story soon - meantime everything else remains the same"
Edit: My bad, not the chairman but one of the board members.
Lol 'the media,' which is one person, who has barely been able to report anything because the people involved with the club won't fudgeing say anything. smfh.

I don't blame Philip for trying to squeeze stories out of this, but the club absolutely has a right to keep this behind closed doors. I've been surprised how much Clive has been saying to be honest.
And Phillip has every right to ask questions.
I recall watching Tom at North Shore. Not a bad keeper.
From the Nelson Mail: Paul Ifill
Also from the Nelson Mail: Tom Fawdry resigns
I recall watching Tom at North Shore. Not a bad keeper.
both times we played Shore he was good - but from a source from inside the team he had a bit of a reputation for having amazing days and then some the total opposite of that.

Accurate from what I've heard/seen. Let a Watto header through his legs a couple of weeks ago then pulled out a wonder save at the end of the game. Pity it didn't work out because we need a servicable backup with how often Coey is injured and I can't really think of anyone else in Nelson (can't see Levi Waddington or Blaze Cousins being up to the task, and i don't know who Marlborough or FC Nelson ahve in goal). Would love to hear what actually went on, when more comes to light I'll do some more poking around.
Marcel Kampman will be the backup, as he has been when Coey's been out this season.
The young Marlbourgh keeper Patrick is he on the scene? He'd be 16/17 now. Top lad.
Nick Stanton from Marlborough and Marcel Kampman have been the two NYL goalkeepers, with Kampman staying on with the first team. Now looks like he will see the season out on the bench. I think Coey Turipa is close to a yellow card suspension, maybe one or two off, which could cause a problem if he gets one.

Davor taking over until the end of the season
Bless this league
So he was asked to come chat about the future of his job and he just says bugger it and sneaks off without telling anyone?
Professional.... How did he get past the screening process?
I had a quick chat to him prior to doing the NZF interview when they played Suburbs in the first round - and while he was perfectly polite he did have something about him that was a bit stand off-ish and come to think of it he tried to skip the aftermatch as well from memory.
During the interview I asked him about a save coey had made from a pen that gave them a chance to grab a point only to concede two goals at the end and instead of focusing on the save he went into this detailed complaint about how it wasn't a pen...

They needed to be at the airport tbf.

I got the impression from a couple of people around the club that he wasn't well liked, Rollo even mentions in the article that he "struggled to get the respect of senior players". I also heard mention of the fact that Bertie Fish pulling out of the squad was to do with him but that one I don't trust quite as much.
With the squad we have we should have done far better this year imo. Quite shallow at CB because of injuries, but some of the quality in the attacking third is a lot better than they've shown. I'll be happy now with an 8th place finish and some improved performances in the remaining games.

not quite - they had plenty of time to get there but there bus was booked early and the driver of the bus was wanting to leave and drop them off and fudge off. At least half of the players were in the clubrooms eating while we waited for him to pop along. they did have to leave straight after the formalities which is fine no problems - but it felt like he was using the bus/airport thing to avoid speaking.
Like I said he was perfectly polite so maybe I caught him on an off day.
No. He was odd
Had he coach at senior level before this job? And I don't mean assistant at cook islands which he got as he was mates with the coach. Out of his depth right from the start. The whole fact he left the county with meeting about his job seems to sum him up.
Tavich continues to impress, unbeaten in three games
